Paddle with the Pros — CKC National Freestyle Canoe/Kayak Team & Kawartha Whitewater Paddlers –Minden Whitewater Preserve

This series of clinics are a collaboration between CKC National Freestyle Canoe/Kayak Team & Kawartha Whitewater Paddlers club. There will be Clinics and a Fun Grand Prix Race for beginner, intermediate and really, really good paddlers. Join our national freestyle athletes for a choice of clinics on freestyle, river running, and basic paddling skills. BBQ to follow. 1:1 coaching and group clinics are available. Afterwards, Intermediate Paddlers can join in the Freestyle Nationals in a Jam-Style event, as part of the National Freestyle Team Trials. Come out for the clinics and stay for the weekend! Camping available on-site at the Minden Whitewater Preserve. Meet-up for the group clinics and 1:1 coaching is at the parking lot beside the river (river right on west side).
Tuesday August 18th: 1:1 Coaching 6 to 7:30 pm–water level dependent ($75)
Friday August 21: 1:1 Coaching 6 to 7:30 pm water level dependent ($75)
Saturday August 22nd: Group Sessions for 1.5 hours – meet at 9:00, on water 9:30 until 11:00 am ($45). Groups will be divided up based on skill levels and interests for:
Rolling Extravaganza – on side, off side, back deck rolls (bottom of otter slide)
Breaking It Down – running from the falls down (eddy hop your way down with coaching to build confidence)
Breaking It Down – running from the dam down (eddy hop your way down with coaching to build confidence)
Race Ready – finding the fastest lines for the Grand Prix Race
Freestyle Ready – learn new tricks or dial in existing ones in advance of Nationals Freestyle Frolic.
Participants in the morning clinics can participate in a for fun Grand Prix Race from the dam to bottom, at 11:30 am, after the morning clinics. Afterwards, paddlers are invited to attend and watch, or intermediate paddlers can participate in the JAM:
Freestyle Nationals (12:30 – 4:30) ** Coaching included during the event for Cadets, Juniors, Seniors, Masters & C1 categories. Jump in a freestyle boat and participate in the Jam Style National Championships, which is open to anyone with a solid whitewater roll that wants to have fun. Each round has a selection of seven tricks on the roster, with athletes moving on after they complete at least four of the tricks over the course of multiple rides in Earl’s hole. Each round gets progressively harder. An example of round one would be front surf, left side surf, right side surf, back surf, shove it left, shove it right. With athletes and fans cheering you on, it’s nothing but fun for everyone. Stay tuned for registration for the Nationals (done separately from the morning clinic and fun Race Grand Prix). Price will be $65, which also includes a ticket to the Saturday night dinner and awards.

Funds raised from Paddling with the Pros will offset costs of conducting national freestyle team trials, including water fees, and investing in youth freestyle development programming. KWP is not receiving any profits from this event, our interest is supporting an affordable local clinic for our members, and yours.
