This is non-KWP event. It is put on by the Petawawa River Rats Paddling Club and town of Petawawa. The event is a fun Down River Race through the town section of the Petawawa River (2 rapids, Class 3~4). Usually some KWP members head to this event to partake. There is a banquet, dinner and awards in the evening. While there, plan on a Sunday Upper Petawawa Trip, a great Class 4 river in the middle of Algonquin Park.
Hell or High Water occurs day one in town and the Sunday people do the Upper Petawawa. The Saturday is a rafting race run by Esprit. For kayakers we compete against the other clubs for bragging rights. For the rafts it can be beginners, for kayaks it is for intermediate/experts paddlers depending on water levels.
Campground paddlers use is Black Bear Campground, (Black Bear Campground – 154 Lieven Road CFB Petawawa, cost is $5 per person per night and we ask that you pay at Registration on Saturday morning) or people can use the Quality Inn that is sponsoring the event (10% to 25% discount for participants).
